Tommie Soule: Fundamentals Masterclass, March 16th 2019

Alpha Games is delighted to announce Tommie Soule’s fundamentals painting course will be taking place at the store, on the 16th of March 2019.

From Tommie;

“During the day we are going to get you on the Painting Fundamentals path with all the knowledge, skills and behaviours in order to survive this mystical miniature painting experience. Or, as I like to put it, “it’s easy if you keep it simple and have an open mind”.

First things first, you will need to prepare for the day. You will need to bring;

– Your preferred brushes; everybody has a weapon of choice and they may not be the same as ours. I like to use sizes 2 (basecoat) and 0 (detail). If you have a GW large flat drybrush, bring it.

– Paints; I like to use GW and Army Painter paints, but bring a good range and make sure there are some good mid tones with good coverage (Macccragge blue or Mournfang Brown for example).

– A preferred pallet. I use MDF and I will be going through the whys and hows of this and having tried all methods I find this is the most reliable and versatile once you understand the tool.

– A good lamp, if you like to use them. Neutral daylight LED lamps are advisable.

– A small hairdryer

– We will bring some of the awesome Chaos Cultist models to practice and demo on. However, do feel free to bring your own projects for advice at the end of the session.

– Note pad and pen. Yes, there could be a cheat sheet but…….I do not like to cheat, especially when it comes to teaching and learning. Giving you all the answers is akin to still having your shoe laces tied by your mum. My aim is to teach how to figure all of this out for yourselves and walk away with the knowledge and skill to develop yourself as an independent miniature artist. SO TAKE NOTES and ASK QUESTIONS.

– Cameras and video; I do not mind photographs being taken of the event as long as the other attendees are aware and are happy to have their photo taken. I am also happy for the photos to be used for reviews and blogs, etc. I do not allow video. video distracts from the lesson and I am strict about this.

Following the course, please do not reproduce any of the teaching material and ideas on the internet or anywhere else. I don’t like spoilers for my events or having and of my ideas misinterpreted without me being there to guide and clarify.

Please plan your journey effectively beforehand. Being late sucks for everybody. Be EARLY!

We run this course in a ‘class’ situation and there can be less experienced painters attending, so timing may be an issue. We may finish early, or late….who knows??? If we finish early then we can easily expand onto more painting theory. If we need more time, then I am always happy to carry on until late as well. We will see how this pans out on the day!

There you have it – we should all be prepped and ready for a brilliant day!

See you all soon

Tommie (Golem Painting Studio

(P.S. re-read the part about bringing A PAD AND PEN TO TAKE NOTES, it’s important!)”
